Posted to Kalinaw News (Sep 9, 2021): 188 Loose Firearms Stenciled And Inventoried, Locals Grateful to SALW Program

Hadji Mohammad Ajul, Basilan – A new record of one hundred eighty-eight (188) loose firearms were stenciled and inventoried by the Provincial Government of Basilan headed by Governor Jim Hataman-Salliman together with the Joint Task Force – Basilan here at Brgy. Seronggon on September 6, 2021.

The Stenciling and Inventory of loose firearms is part of the sustainment of the Small Arms and Light Weapons Program of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace Process which controls the proliferation of unregistered firearms and limits its movement within their respective area.

It has been known that twenty-three (23) loose firearms were turned over last May 21, 2021, by the Local Government Unit of Hadji Mohammad Ajul headed by Municipal Mayor Ibrahim Ballaho to the Provincial Government. The success of this activity is through the intensified peace efforts of the 15th Special Forces Company led by Captain Sherwin Latiera together with all the supportive Barangay Chairmen of HMA.

Captain Sherwin D Latiera praised the collaborative efforts of the local leaders of HMA in supporting the Small Arms and Light Weapons Program of the National Government which highlights the voluntary turned-over of loose firearms, inventory and stenciling of unregistered ones, and the signing of memorandum of understanding which greatly contributes to the overall peace and development of Basilan.

Lieutenant Colonel Cyril Santander, the Brigade Executive Officer of Joint Task Force Basilan, emphasized the importance of the relationship of the military and the civilian towards nation-building. He also quotes the mandate of the Philippine Army that is to “Secure the Land, Serve the People” in which without the cooperation from the local leaders, keeping the community in peace is difficult.

“Isa sa mga mission namin ay panatilihin mapayapa ang bansa natin pero hindi namin ito magagawa kung hindi tayo magtulong-tulungan. Ang aktibidad na ito ay pagpapakita ng tiwala ng ating mga mamayan sa ating kasundaluhan kaya dapat suportahan ng bawat mamayan ang programang pangakapayapaan lalong lalo na dito sa Basilan.”

Present in the activity were the Basilan Police Provincial Office, Provincial Government of Basilan, Local Government Unit of Hadji Mohammad Ajul, different government agency, and stakeholders.
