3ID chief: Wipe out all guerilla fronts in Panay, Negros

From Panay News (Sep 9, 2021): 3ID chief: Wipe out all guerilla fronts in Panay, Negros (By Ruby Silubrico)

Brigadier General Noel Baluyan, newly installed acting commander of the Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division (3ID) based in Jamindan, Capiz, directed his men to fast track the dismantling of New People’s Army (NPA) guerilla fronts in Panay and Negros islands.

“We may not totally wipe them out but at least they should not operate in groups. We have to dismantle their fronts para hindi sila makapag-operate,” Baluyan said.

Guerilla fronts so far dismantled were the eastern front in Panay and northern and southeast Negros fronts.

Baluyan said the remaining active fronts in Panay are the central front based in the towns of Calinog, Iloilo and Tapaz, Capiz; and the southern front based in the towns of Miag-ao, Tubungan and San Joaquin, Iloilo, and Hamtic and Sibalom in Antique.

However, these fronts are weakening, Baluyan said.

“There is no letup in our effort to render the NPA irrelevant,” he stressed.

Baluyan’s predecessor, Major General Eric Vinoya, neutralized 3,261 rebels in Central and Western Visayas in 267 combat operations and 83 encounters.

A total of 352 firearms were seized. Also, 2,886 rebel supporters surrendered.
