Kuta Heneral Teodulfo Bautista Jolo, Sulu – The brother of Abu Sayyaf Group sub-leader Mundi Sawadjaan and another ASG member were killed after the ASG clashed with units under Joint Task Force- Sulu several times today in Patikul, Sulu.

The bodies of Mujafal “Jhapz” Sawadjaan who is the eldest brother of ASG sub-leader and infamous bomber Mundi Sawadjaan and another ASG group member identified as Muktihar Taha alias Mukti were recovered at around 3:20 pm today after they were killed by the military forces during armed encounters with the terrorist group in the boundaries of Barangays Taung, Taglibi, Panglayahan, all in Patikul.

Joint Task Force – Sulu and 11th Infantry Division Commander Major General William N Gonzales narrated that the 2nd Special Forces Battalion and the 32nd Infantry Battalion under 1103rd Infantry Brigade led by Colonel Eugenio Boquio and the 21st Infantry Battalion and other operating forces of the 1102nd Infantry Brigade led by Colonel Benjamin Batara had a series of encounters with the ASG group led by infamous bomber Mudzmar “Mundi” Sawadjaan.

“The clashes started at around 9:30am. The 2nd Special Forces Battalion led by Lieutenant Colonel Benito Ramos, while conducting combat operations, spotted a fleeing ASG member who has left behind an improvised explosive device component.

The pursuit of said individual led them to clash with the group of Mundi, who engaged them in a firefight. The operating forces of the 1103rd Infantry Brigade continued to pursue Mundi’s group as the latter desperately tried to evade government forces,” Colonel Batara added.

“We have received initial reports indicating that Mundi’s youngest brother Al-al Sawadjaan was also neutralized during today’s encounters. All our forces are on high alert as we continue to hunt for Mundi Sawdjaan” With the death of most of the members of his group, it is highly possible that Mundi is evading our forces by all by himself MGen Gonzales stated.

To recall, an Egyptian terrorist and two ASG members under Mundi were also killed last week as part of the intense military operations against the terrorist group.
