HADJI MOHAMMAD AJUL, Basilan Province – A peaceful clash just happened. For the first time in the history of Basilan Province all sectors here in the Municipality of HMA have come together to engage one another, not by arms, but through friendly sports.

Mayor Ibrahim Ballaho of Hadji Mohammad Ajul Municipality, in partnership with the 15th Special Forces Company, initiated the SPORTS PEACE (sports fest) activity with the theme: “Hap Magdagey dagey amban magpapatey” (It is better to play than to fight) which officially opened last Monday, 22 February 2021 here at Barangay Buton of HMA Municipality.

According to Mayor Ballaho, this activity aims to break the barrier amongst different sectors and to strengthen the camaraderie and cooperation of the different organizations which is important in propagating peace and development in the locality. The game venue will also tour around the different Municipalities of Basilan Province to showcase the local talents of the players.

Twelve teams will compete to be declared as the ultimate champion of the historic event. Participating teams will be coming from the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), abu sayyaf group returnees, local government unit, youth organizations, ulama council, local police, military, Cafgu, and other sectors.

On Tuesday, 23 February, the first part of the basketball game was played at the Headquarters of the 4th Special Forces Battalion in Isabela City, Basilan between MNLF versus MILF, and LGU versus Ulama Council, advancing the MILF and LGU to the next round. All players gave their best while enjoying the game. The second leg will be played in Lamitan City.

“Higit sa paglahok at pagkapanalo, nais nating ipakita ang pagkakaisa at pagtutulungan ng bawat sektor dito sa Hadji Mohammad Ajul. Lahat tayo dito ay may malaking kontribusyon sa kapayapaan.”, Captain Sherwin Latiera, the Commanding Officer of 15th Special Forces Company, expressed.

Present during the said activities were Brigadier General Domingo B. Gobway, the Commander of 101st Infantry Brigade and Joint Task Force Basilan, Lieutenant Colonel Alex D. Ampati, the Commanding Officer of 4th Special Forces Battalion, Barangay Officials, and other guests.
