4 communist rebels surrender in Libacao

From the Panay News (Feb 22, 2021): 4 communist rebels surrender in Libacao

LIBACAO, Aklan – Four members of the New People’s Army (NPA) voluntarily surrendered to the local government here.

The barangay captain of Manika turned over the surrenderers to the local government on Feb. 18.

The four were affiliated with the NPA’s Kilusang Rehiyong Panay operating in Barangay Manika and Barangay Dalagsa-an.

The surrenderers were cousins and were all locals of Libacao. They joined the NPA last December 2020 in return for cash.

They decided to leave the group because they realized they were deceived. The money promised them did not materialize, they said.

The local government of Libacao would evaluate the surrenderers for the Enhanced Comprehensive and Local Integration Program.

Presently, the four were in the custody of the Libacao municipal police station.

Police Brigadier General Rolando Miranda welcomed the surrender.

“I encourage other communist group members to surrender because the government’s assistance awaits you. Let us help our government end local communist armed conflict,” he said.
