Lokal Serbisyo Caravan in S. Leyte town benefits two ELCAC vulnerable barangays

SILAGO, Southern Leyte, February 19 (PIA) - - Led by the Basic Services Cluster of the Southern Leyte Provincial Task Force – End Local Communist Armed Conflict (PTF-ELCAC), the activity dubbed as “Lokal Serbisyo Caravan – Wave II ” redound to benefit two vulnerable barangays in Silago town.

The ELCAC Lokal Serbisyo Caravan was held for two most disadvantaged barangays, Salvacion and Laguma, Sunday, February 14, 2021, bringing government services closer to some 500 barangay folks and children.


Silago Municipal Mayor Pacita Almine said the barangay folks were amazed and grateful of the government services held on a non-working day.

“ My people are now in festive mood in response to the service caravans brought to their community especially on this heart day. The people not only heard but felt the touch of the government today,” Mayor Almine said in an interview with PIA Regional Head Erlinda Olivia p. Tiu.

No less than the 14th IB Philippine Army uniformed men and women conducted the following free services like medical check-up, tooth extractions, circumcisions, massage, hair cut and provision of free medicines.


Children lined up for the free circumcision conducted by the 14th IB Philippine Army, among the medical and dental services held during the Lokal Serbisyo Caravan - Wave II for ELCAC vulnerable barangays of Salvacion and Laguma, both from Silago last February 14, 2021.

The Office of the Presidential Assistance in the Visayas (OPAV) brought more than two hundred Jollibee food packs for children and were distributed by Vice Governor Christopherson Yap and Mayor Almine.

The people passionately expressed their immediate needs such as the construction of evacuation centers, need for potable water and farm to market roads.

The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) representative had a one-on-one discussion with one of the participants concerning land disputes.

The whole of nation approach in the government’s efforts to end local communist armed conflict was actively participated in by Regional Directors Ceasar Karl Rimando of DILG, Marie Angela Gopolan of DSWD and Erlinda Olivia P. Tiu of PIA, 14th IB Lt.Col. Roberto Obaob and a host of national line agencies’ representatives ready with their services offerings. (nbq/esg/PIA-8 SoLeyte)
