A suspected ranking New People's Army rebel was arrested in San Fabian, Pangasinan on Monday, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Wednesday.

Authorities
identified the suspect as one Allan Rey Balanay, 48. Police said Balanay is listed as No. 8 Most Wanted in the Cagayan Valley.


He is accused for various criminal cases of murder, frustrated murder, illegal possession of explosives, and illegal possession of firearms. Police served the warrants of arrest against him last Monday night in Barangay Mabilao.

According to the PNP, Balanay is allegedly an officer of the Henry Abraham Command of the CPP-NPA Northern Front Committee operating in northern Cagayan, the same CPP-NPA unit allegedly responsible for the killing of Mayor Carlito Pentecostes in Gonzaga, Cagayan in 2014.

Balanay is also allegedly involved in the slay of six members of the PNP Regional Public Safety Battalion in Baggao, Cagayan in February 2016.
