Amid the conduct of the focused military operation, operating troops captured one Abu Sayyaf Group sub-leader following an encounter at Sitio Tubig Kawas, Barangay Latih, Patikul, Sulu at 4:30 p.m. Thursday (November 12), the WestMinCom Commander said.

Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr. stated that while the troops of the 17th Special Forces Company, 6th Special Forces Battalion were scouring the area following the successful neutralization of the ASG/Kidnap for Ransom Group on November 3, they encountered more or less seven terrorists.

“A firefight ensued which lasted for ten minutes after which the enemies scampered to different directions living their wounded comrade behind,” said Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr.

“While in pursuit of the fleeing enemies, our troops captured one wounded militant who was then identified as ASG sub-leader Amah Ullah,” Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. added.

The company commander of the 17SFC revealed that being an ace of the group, Ullah was determined to fight up to his last breath and urged the soldiers to just kill him but they instead applied first aid to the wounded personality.

Amah Ullah was then brought to Camp General Teodolfo Bautista Station Hospital for further medical attention.

“The said personality is the uncle and adviser of Basaron Arok, a group member who is an emerging ASG sub-leader,” said 6th Special Forces Battalion Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Rafael Caido.

Lt. Col. Caido said that Ullah will undergo custodial debriefing while recovering from the wound sustained at the calf of his left leg.

“The JTF-Sulu continues to abide by the rules of engagement and maintain professionalism in instances such as this. We make it a point that even captured enemies are treated humanely. We provide them medical treatment if they need it. Hopefully, Amah Ullah will come to his senses and cooperatively aid in our pursuit of peace here in Sulu,” said Maj. Gen. William Gonzales, Commander of the Joint Task Force Sulu.
