November 12, 2020, Camp General Teodulfo Bautista, Jolo, Sulu – At around 4:30pm today, the Special Forces under the Joint Task Force – Sulu clashed with members of the Abu Sayyaf Group in Patikul, Sulu that resulted to the capture of a wounded ASG member.

Following the successful neutralization of ASG members in the waters of Sulu on 3 November, the troops of 17th Special Forces Company led by 2lt Jhonny-Ric R Bregonia figured in another clash with more or less seven ASG members under sub-leader Basaron Arok in So Tubig Kawas, Bgy Latih, Patikul, Sulu. After a ten-minute firefight, the ASG bandits started to flee. Lt Bregonia, however, decided to pursue the enemy, which resulted to the capture of ASG sub-leader Amah Ullah.

According to Lt Bregonia, “As expected sa isang batikang leader, hindi naging madali yung pagkuha namin. Nagbanta pa talaga na puputukan niya kami. Nagsabi rin si Ullah na patayin na lang namin siya. Ang nangyari sa dulo ginamot pa ng tropa ang gunshot ni Ullah sa kaliwang binti.”

To note, Lt Bregonia was previously wounded in an encounter between government forces and the ASG in same municipality early this year. After recovering from his wounds, he immediately returned to work and continued the fight in behalf of his comrades who were killed in action.

Meantime, ASG member Amah Ullah have undergone medical treatment for his wounds at Camp General Teodolfo Bautista Station Hospital. Ullah, is reportedly the uncle and adviser to Basaron Arok, who is an emerging ASG sub-leader. Per 6th Special Forces Battalion Commander Ltc Rafael P Caido, Ullah is scheduled to be further interviewed to gather more information.

“The JTF-Sulu continues to abide by the rules of engagement and maintain professionalism in instances such as this. We make it a point that even captured enemies are treated humanely. We provide them medical treatment if they need it. Hopefully Amah Ullah will come to his senses and cooperate to aid our pursuit of peace here in Sulu.” –MGen William N Gonzales, Commander of Joint Task Force Sulu and 11th Infantry Division.
