Marihatag, Surigao del Sur – Troops of the Philippine Army’s 3rd Special Forces Battalion (3SFBn) engaged in an encounter with 30 Communist NPA Terrorists, said to be members of the SYP Platoon, Guerilla Force 19 under the leadership of Ka-Coby, or Marion Himo Jr at Brgy. San Isidro, Marihatag, Surigao del Sur yesterday, November 28.
The encounter lasted for about 45mins to which the rebels withdrew, leaving behind one of their members who died in the encounter. The neutralized member was positively identified by former rebels who personally know her as Jevilyn Campos Cullamat aka Reb, youngest daughter of Bayan Muna Representative Eufemia Campos Cullamat. Jevilyn, 22 years old, served as a medic of the aforementioned NPA unit.
Bayan Muna and the Makabayan-bloc, to which Eufemia Cullamat is a member of, has been in the hot seat, following a series of Senate hearing in line with the government’s efforts to identify organizations closely linked with the CPP-NPA-NDF (CNN) Terrorist network. Although not present at the previous hearing, Eufemia Campos Cullamat has been receiving criticisms on her stance related to her affiliation with the terrorist organization.
Another Senate hearing on the topic of establishing the link between Makabayan-bloc and other progressive groups and the CPP-NPA is set to be scheduled next week.
