Ormoc City – Troops of 14th Infantry Battalion, 8th Infantry Division, Philippine Army encountered undetermined number of fully armed NPA members at vicinityof Barangay Hiluctogan, Carigara, Leyte on November 17, 2020.
The encounter transpired as the army troops continue to conduct pursuit operations against NPA Terrorist who recently abandoned a temporary encampment in the area. Firefight lasted for about five minutes before the enemy fled to different direction. Left behind by the NPAs were one civilian back pack containing CPP-NPA-NDF Educational Books, CPP Flag, rice, flashlight, poncho; rain boots; duralite slipper; empty shells of Cal 5.56 M16 rifle, Cal 7.62 M14 rifle and Cal 45 pistol; personal belongings; and, subversive documents/propaganda materials.
Brigadier General Zosimo A. Oliveros, Commander of 802nd Infantry Brigade, said that he will not hesitate to use the full might of the government forces in order to protect the people. However, he calls for the fleeing NPAs to return to folds of law, join the main stream of society, and to reunite with their family especially that Christmas is fast approaching.
“Likewise, we will continue to support the Local Government Units of Carigara, Leyte in protecting its constituents from any threats and illegal activities posed by CPP-NPA-NDF and prevent them to regain their lost ground and mass base in the area”, Brigadier General Oliveros added.
BGen Oliveros thanks the residents of Brgy Canlampay, Carigara for the timely information which enable the troops to dislodge and prevent them from conducting terroristic activities against helpless civilians. This only shows that the NPA Terrorists are no longer welcome in the area.
