Explosives and ammunition believed to be owned by New People's Army (NPA) rebels were recovered by soldiers at an encounter site after a clash in Camarines Sur on Wednesday.

In an interview on Thursday, Army Captain John Paul Belleza, 9th Infantry Division Public Affairs Office chief (DPAO), said government troops
fought with at least 15 NPA members in Tinambac town after receiving information from residents about the presence of rebels in their area.

"Seized in the encounter site are anti-personnel mine, M2O3 40-mm grenade, 200-meter electrical wire, ammunitions, personal belongings, and several materials used (as) propaganda materials," he said.

Belleza said the firefight lasted for about 10 minutes before the enemies withdrew. "No one was harmed on the government's side while still undetermined on the enemies' side," he added.

“Troops from the Joint Task Force Bicolandia (JTFB) continue to initiate successful combat engagements as part of its intensified military operations against the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) in the Bicol region,” he said.

Belleza also said that JTFB head, Maj. Gen. Henry Robinson Jr. thanked the residents for the prompt report.

“Maj. Gen Robinson attributed this development to the combined extensive military operations, intensified campaigns in encouraging the CTG members to return to the folds of the law and the cooperation of the local populace to the anti-insurgency campaigns of the government,” he said.
