A member of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) who allegedly “moonlights” as a drug pusher was killed during a buy-bust operation Wednesday evening here, a police official said.

Lt. Col. Vici Anthony Tababa, Digos City acting police chief, identified the slain suspect as Sgt. Reginald Labajo, 35, a member of the intelligence unit of the Army's 39th Infantry Battalion (39IB).

Labajo, a resident here, was the subject of a joint buy-bust operation of various branches of the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

Law enforcers said they recovered four sachets of suspected shabu with an estimated market value of PHP276,556, a 9mm pistol and other pieces of evidence.

Tababa said Labajo, who was in a four-wheeled vehicle, fired on the poseur-buyer upon realizing he was transacting with a police officer but missed.

He said the other operatives fired back at the suspect, killing him instantly.
