PINUKPUK, Kalinga, Aug. 4 (PIA) - - The Department of Public Works and Highways – Lower Kalinga District Engineering Office (DPWH-LKDEO) is fastracking the completion of phase 2 of the Tappo, Apatan hanging bridge in this town amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
OIC LKDEO District Engineer Ruby Uyam said phase 2 of said project is expected to be finished this third quarter. The funding of the project is “for later release” this 2020 but the contractor proceeded at his own risk, she said.
Uyam said the bridge is a local project but DPWH, through the initiative of Congressman Allen Jesse Mangaoang, accommodated it and took charge of its replacement due to the clamor of locals for its immediate construction, its exigency to users and it being located in an insurgency- influenced area.
The bridge which was destroyed by a calamity two years ago, is the main connection of villagers to their production areas on the other side of the Saltan River, for teachers and students going to school and to other barangays.
The amount of P1 million was immediately allotted last year for phase 1 and was utilized for the construction of the other side of the tower and anchor. DPWH Project Supervising Engineer Warren Liwaliw said phase 2 of the project amounting to P1million is being fastracked.
“This is also DPWH’s contribution to the “whole of nation approach” under Executive Order No. 70 to End Local Communist Armed Conflict,” Uyam said. (JDP/PAB-PIA CAR)
