DAVAO CITY, June 30 (PIA) – The Presidential Communication Operations Office Undersecretary Dr. Lorraine Badoy expressed her concern over the involvement of children from Indigenous communities in insurgencies brought about by the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) in Region XI.
Her sentiments to the plight of children were emphasized in her visits to the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD XI) Reception and Study Center for Children (RSCC), Home for Girls and Women (HGW) and Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth (RRCY).
Badoy discussed how Indigenous children have become mere indispensable resources for the communist insurgents in the Region for their campaign to destabilize and malign the efforts of the government in implementing peace and order.
“Ang tingin nila [rebels] sa mga IPs [Indigenous People] is – wala lang – indispensable. (What the rebels thing of IPs are as if they are nothing – indispensable.),” Badoy said.
In light of this, Badoy cited specific injustices committed by insurgencies in Region XI and expressed how the National Government prioritizes the protection of children from being exploited by the campaign of the CPP-NPA through the Anti-Terrorism Bill.
“There’s plenty of abuse like inside [United Church of Christ in the Philippines] Haran is … where they teach children how to become child warriors … that is why we really want for that Anti-Terrorism Bill to be there because it’s really going to help [the] government protect its citizens from terrorists,” Badoy added.
