KAPAI, Lanao del Sur, May 27 (PIA) -- Two opposing clans here decided to end their strife through a peaceful resolution.
The conflict between the Elias and Mosama clans had caused fatality that brought anxiety to the people, putting Kapai town in a volatile peace and order situation in the past years hindering development in the area.
For this reason, former mayors Hamza Gauraki of Kapai and Misangcad Capal of Tagoloan II, with the assistance of the 82nd Infantry Battalion under Lieutenant Colonel Rafman S. Altre, brokered the peaceful reconciliation of the two families.
Both clans surrendered two (2) M16 rifles each to the government as a goodwill offering to prove their sincerity to settle the feud.

LtCol. Altre said such action laid the foundation of a formal settlement that will take place upon compliance with the terms agreed by the parties through the facilitation of the two former mayors.
The goodwill offering held Wednesday, May 27, was also witnessed by 103rd Infantry Brigade Commander Col. Jose Maria Cuerpo II who expressed appreciation to both former mayors for facilitating reconciliation.
In his message, Col. Cuerpo appealed to both clans to respect each other for peace to reign in Kapai and Tagoloan towns.

"Napakasakit na kapwa kayo magkadugo, na pare-pareho kayong mga Maranao, pareho kayong residente ng Lanao del Sur, ngunit sa isang iglap ay naging magkaaway na nagpapatayan," he said.
[It hurts that both of you are relatives, that you are all Meranaos, residents of Lanao del Sur, but at one point you became enemies killing each other.]
"Mayroon tayong mga batas para magresolba ng mga problema. Mayroon din batas ang Islam para magresolba ng mga problema. Pwede natin itong pag-usapan. Lahat ng problema may solusyon. Manalig lamang tayo at humingi ng patnubay sa taas," he added.
[We have laws to solve problems. Islam also has laws to solve problems. We can talk about it. All problems have solutions. Let's just trust and ask for guidance from above.]
Cuerpo said that it's also high time to change the perception of the public that Kapai is not safe due to killings, drugs, rido, and other crimes.
Meanwhile, Gauraki requested the two clans to sincerely cooperate for the sake of their relatives and the community as a whole.
"Sa pagtutulungan, ating makakamtan ang katahimikan. Huwag nating hayaan na masayang ang ating sakripisyo," he said.

Representatives of the Mosama clan emphasizes that they peace-loving families who only want justice for their slain relatives.
Amira Mosama said they only want justice for their slain relatives. They hope the military, police, and local government units of Kapai and Tagoloan II can help them attain justice and closure. "Aya bo kapipiya a genawa ami na makalabuso siran (We will only be relieved when the perpetrators are arrested)," she said.
