TALACOGON, Agusan del Sur – Another setback befelled the communist terrorists as one (1) member of the terrorist New People’s Army (NPA) was killed and three (3) high powered firearms were recovered after an armed encounter by the 26th Infantry “Ever Onward” Battalion against the Communist NPA Terrorists (CNTs) in an inhabited and forested area of Sitio Pigdusuan, Barangay Mahagsay, San Luis, Agusan del Sur in the afternoon of May 24, 2020.

Reports from the locals of an NPA movement in the area reached the army unit thus a focused military operation was launched. Allegedly, the NPA group extorted food stuffs and cash from rice and corn farmers in the nearby barangay who have just sold their produce. A series of encounter ensued when the army troops checked the area.

Eventually, one (1) NPA was found dead, three (3) AK47 rifles, (3) magazines and ammunitions were seized. Several items were left behind by the retreating terrorists such as two (2) backpacks and subversive documents. Bloodstains were also found in the route of withdrawal, an indication that there might be severely wounded CNTs.

It can be recalled that on May 16 2020, a notorious NPA personality named @OPAW of the Guerilla Front 88, North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC) was neutralized during an encounter at Km16, Brgy Don Alejandro of San Luis town which this encountered CNTs similarly belongs.

Lt Col Romeo C Jimenea, 26IB commanding officer, commended the operating troops and attributed the success of the operations to the communities who really supported the Philippine Army. “It is a clear proof of the locals’ trust on us to protect them, and for that, we will continue our initiatives in order to safeguard our people,” Lt Col Jimenea expressed.

“I call on the surviving NPAs to surrender peacefully, take advantage and avail of the government’s program being offered through the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP). Give yourselves a chance to live a normal life with your family and friends. It is the best option, to rejoin a peaceful society. I urge the remaining NPAs to grab this opportunity,” Lt Col Jimenea ended.
