TAGO, Surigao del Sur, May 19 – another member of the Communist NPA terrorist was killed again in an encounter with the army’s 36th Infantry (Valor) Battalion at the hinterland’s vicinity of Sitio Kiskis, Brgy Siagao, San Miguel, this province yesterday May 18, 2020, at around 11:30 in the morning.

A 45-min running gun battle ensued between the elements of the army’s 36th Infantry (Valor) Battalion and more or less 30-armed group believed to be members of the Platoon 1, Weakened Guerilla Front (WGF30) of the North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC) under @ Nico (TN) Joel Maca Mahinay. Afterward, the enemy scampered and withdraw to different directions leaving their comrade behind.

The gun battle resulted in the recovery of one cadaver of unidentified NPA fighter and troops seized two AK47 assault rifles, rifle grenades, war materiel, medical paraphernalia, personal belongings, and documents.

In his statement, Lt Col Jezreel Diagmel, Commanding Officer of 36IB said that “It is their (CNT) diversionary tactics to refocus and disrupt our pursuit operation and conduct violent atrocities in San Miguel area. But, with the information provided by the locals of their presence, the unit foils their plan.”

It can be noted that troops of 36IB still on pursuit operation on the fleeing CNTs who withdraw last March 11, 2020, in an encounter at the hinterlands of Brgy Cabangan, Cantilan that resulted in the death of one NPA fighter.

“We will continue our relentless combat operations in the area against these terrorist groups until their collapse and became insignificant in the communities,” Lt Col Diagmel said

“We lauded the courageous and brave move of the residents by providing information and denouncing the presence of the CNT in their respective communities,” Lt Col Diagmel ended

As of press time, troops are still conducting pursuit operations against fleeing members of the terrorist group.

The cadavers are now being transported to be turn-over to PNP for immediate identification.
