An alleged top-ranking official of the communist terrorist group operating in Central Luzon was arrested on Monday in Masinloc town, this province.

Col. Ponce Rogelio Peñones Jr., provincial director of Zambales Police Provincial Office, on Tuesday identified the suspect as Darlene Jane Mon, who is using the aliases “Daya,” “Gin,” “CJ” and “Sinag,” and a resident of Sitio Mandaloy, Barangay Taltal, Masinloc.

Peñones, in his report submitted to Police Regional Office 3 director Brig. Gen. Rhodel Sermonia, said Mon was arrested by the joint operatives of Philippine National Police Regional Intelligence Unit (PNP RIU-3), Zambales provincial police force, and Masinloc Police Station.

He said Mon is listed as No. 1 most wanted in Zambales, and also marked Top 10 most wanted in Central Luzon.

Likewise, based on intelligence reports gathered by Philippine National Police, Mon is an active member of the New People’s Army (NPA) and operates as a medic and supply officer under the Alvarez Peralta Command Zambales Platoon.

The suspect was arrested through a warrant of arrest issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 71 in Iba, Zambales for criminal cases of murder, two counts of attempted murder, and arson.

The court recommended no bail for murder and arson but granted PHP100,000 each for the two counts of attempted murder.

Peñones warned the enemies of the state that the police force is maintaining its vigilance against anyone or group that is trying to destroy or disrupt peace and order in the community, especially during this time of a health crisis.

The NPA is listed as a terrorist organization by the United States, European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand.
