CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro city – Troopers of the 4th Infantry “Diamond” Division, Philippine Army with medical related background prior entry to the military service were identified to undergo refresher on their previous fields of interest and train for COVID-19 Patient Management as part of the six modules under the special training program facilitated by Camp Evangelista Station Hospital (CESH) thru video teleconference (VTC) on Wednesday, April 8, 2020.

A total of 186 diamond troopers with medical related background and health workers assigned in the different units of this Command were called upon to be part of the unit’s Marshalls and Trainers on COVID-19 (MTC-19) whose core functions are as follows: 1) act as Marshalls to inspect and ensure that military personnel are observing DOH-issued protocols and measures; 2) act as trainer to personnel pertaining to COVID-19 related efforts; and 3) act as adviser to their respective Commanders on health matters particularly on the management of COVID-19 issues and concerns.

The two-day special training started last April 4, 2020 to the same participants who underwent Basic Personnel Safety on COVID-19 and Patient (PUMs/PUIs) Handling focused on the module on COVID-19 Management for Field Unit Personnel. The special training program is a result of the collaborative efforts by the training team from DOH-X headed by Dr. Wellaflor K. Brito, Medical Officer III and the medical officers and staffs of CESH headed by LtCol Jonna D Dalaguit MC (GSC) PA.

MGen Franco Nemesio Gacal emphasized the need to organize provisional teams and enhance unit capabilities in addressing the current challenges brought about by this COVID-19 pandemic. MGen Gacal further stressed to have a relevant and safe response during deployment of troops in support to other agencies to contain the spread of the virus and mitigating its impacts to our community.

“We are one with the people of Northern Mindanao and Caraga regions in this fight against COVID-19. Rest assured of our troops’ unwavering commitment and support to the local government units and agencies through the Northern Mindanao Task Force for COVID-19. We are all in this together and we will heal as one,” Gacal added. “The most patriotic thing that our citizen can do right now is to stay in their homes and observe social distancing and other health protocols prescribed by the Department of Health,” Gacal ended.
