Police nabs former NPA leader

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, Feb.18 (PIA) -- Police nabbed this morning a former leader of the New People’s Army (NPA) in an operation in Angeles City.

Rodolfo Salas, also known as Kumander Bilog, was arrested by personnel of the Special Concern Unit of Regional Intelligence Division 3, 301st Maneuver Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 3 and Angeles City Police Intelligence Branch.


“72-year old Salas has a warrant of arrest for 15 counts of murder. It was issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 32 Presiding Judge Thelma Bunyi-Medina last August 28, 2019,” Police Regional Director PBGen. Rhodel Sermonia said.

The operating team seized one unit Para-Ordnance cal. 45 pistol, 174 pieces of different ammunition and two Cal. 45 magazine assembly.

“The successful arrest of Salas is the result of accurate information provided by former members of the NPA who have returned to the folds of the law and availed of the livelihood program and financial assistance under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program,” Sermonia added.

Appropriate charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 is being prepared for filing in court against Salas.

Meanwhile, 14 NPA fighters have submitted themselves to authorities and voluntarily surrendered their firearms consisting of one cal. 45 pistol, two cal.38 revolvers, one cal.22, one improvised shotgun, three rifle grenades and five cal.40mm ammunition.

“Police Regional Office 3 together with all member agencies of the Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict 3 will continue this whole of sector approach against communist terrorist to achieve peace and national unity,” Sermonia furthered. (CLJD-PIA 3)
