BUTUAN CITY – A frustrated murder suspect tagged by Metro Butuan City Police Office (BCPO) as a “Militia ng Mayan” (MB) or “people’s militia” of the New People’s Army (NPA) was arrested at a police checkpoint along the national highway of Purok 7, Barangay Bancasi, Butuan City on Tuesday.

In his flash report to Caraga Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13) Regional Director Brig. Gen. Joselito T. Esquivel, Jr., BCPO City Director Col. Canilo A. Fuentes said BCPO operatives, in coordination with the Army’s 23rd Infantry Battalion (23rd IB),
arrested suspect Jezriel M. Samuya, alias ‘Adjee Samuya’, alleged MB member of Guerilla Front Committee 4-A of the CPP-NPA Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee.

The suspect was spotted by the police team on board an L300 van and was immediately arrested after being served the warrant of arrest for the crime of frustrated murder issued by Judge Emmanuel Escatron of the Regional Trial Court here dated June 22, 2016.

Col. Fuentes commended the Butuan City community for their continuing support to the local police in deterring crime.

“Actually, we attribute our continuing success of our operation to the cooperation of the Butuan community,” the BCPO city director said.

Meanwhile, in coordination with the 13th Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA 33), Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) of BCPO-Station 2 staged a series of buy bust operation in the city that led to the arrest of two newly identified alleged illegal drug peddlers on Monday.

“The arrest of the suspects yielded suspected shabu and were duly witnessed by local barangay officials during the two separate operations,” he said.

Arresting BCPO-S2 unit is now preparing cases for violation of Section 5 and 11 Article II of R.A. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 for filing at the local courts against the arrested suspects, Col. Fuentes added.
