Military troops recovered 12 improvised explosive devices following fierce clashes with outlawed members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters under Karialan faction Friday dawn in Cotabato.

Soldiers of 7th Infantry Battalion exchanged fire with the group of Katato Samad at Sitio Blah in Barangay Manaulanan, Pikit at 5:25am on December 27.

Another five-minute gunfight ensued between 7IB troops and another group of BIFF terrorists near the engagement area.

“Military troops currently clear the objectives and block possible withdrawal routes of eluding terrorists,” said Maj. Gen. Diosdado Carreon, Joint Task Force Central Commander.

Maj. Gen. Carreon said troops recovered 12 improvised explosives emplaced by said terrorists after today’s series of clashes.

Samad is a bomb maker and SOG battalion commander of the BIFF’s 1st Division.

“Terrorists are on the run as we mount offensives and close in on rebel fighters. Our forces deliberately operate to run down and neutralize terrorists behind the series of bomb attacks and ploys in central Mindanao,” said Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, commander of Western Mindanao Command
