Stay vigilant, troops urged

From the Visayan Daily Star (Nov 29, 2019): Stay vigilant, troops urged

Negros Army troops have been reminded to be “security conscious” at all times, following the series of armed engagements between government forces and New People’s Army rebels in Negros Occidental.

Brig. Gen. Eric Vinoya, newly-installed commander of the 3rd Infantry Division, issued the reminders during a dialog yesterday with troopers of the 303rd Infantry Brigade at Camp Maj. Nelson Gerona in Brgy. Minoyan, Murcia.

Two government initiated encounters in Isabela and Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental, on Nov. 22 and 24, claimed the life of a suspected intelligence officer of the NPA, arrest of seven others, including an injured rebel group squad leaders, and the recovery of assorted war materials.

The two encounters were offshoots of an incident in Isabela, where suspected NPA rebels who were looking for firearms barged into the residence of a barangay captain, and warned his family, that he should not return to the barangay.

“Do your job, and do it well,” Vinoya, who was the formerly Joint Task Force Negros chief, also told the Army soldiers.
