Newly-appointed Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) commandant Maj. Gen. Nathaniel Casem vowed to make the force more "mission-ready" as this is what the country needs.

“Our archipelagic nation deserves no less than a “mission-ready” Marine Corps. We, along with our brothers in the AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) are in the middle of modernizing our warfighting capabilities, it would be for the best interest of our shared social values with our stakeholders that such should be done in the most efficient and effective manner,” Casem said in his assumption speech which was forwarded to reporters Tuesday.

Casem, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1987, replaced Maj. Gen. Alvin A. Parreño in a ceremony presided by Philippine Navy (PN) flag-officer-in-command Vice Admiral Robert Empedrad at Acero Hall, Marine Barracks Rudiardo Brown, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City Monday afternoon.

Before his assumption as PMC's 32nd commandant, Casem served as The Naval Inspector General for 15 months.

He hails from Bayombong, Nueva Ecija and is highly respected and decorated Marine officer.

“After the institutionalization of our Marine Corps Ethos, we shall continue to uphold our collective desire to develop and sustain discipline within our ranks and pursue developing the character and warfighting spirit of our Marines” the new PMC chief added.
