Suspected New People’s Army rebels opened fire at the personnel of a military outpost in Sitio Cabangahan, Brgy. Hilamonan, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, Thursday night.

However, nobody was hit among the CAFGU personnel occupying the detachment of the 12th Infantry Battalion, the police said.

About 10 suspected NPA rebels, who positioned themselves about 300 meters away from the military detachment, withdrew towards Sitio Danao of the barangay, after three minutes of gunbattle.

Both the military and police stationed in remote outposts are on heightened alert, following the series of atrocities perpetrated by communist rebels in central Negros.*
