Mawab, ComVal Province – Lieutenant Colonel Esteveyn E Ducusin, Commanding Officer of 71st Infantry Battalion led the turn-over of water system to the residents of Purok 7, Brgy San Vicente, Mawab, Compostela Valley Province on August 13, 2019, 9:00 o’clock in the morning.

The Water System project provides safe potable water to the increasing number of population in the community, in turn improving their quality of life. The donation was therefore made possible by the 71st Infantry Battalion under who initiated the request earlier this year to the ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation, Inc – Sagip Kapamilya, who after having learned of the project, did not hesitate to help and therefore the primary donor of the Water System.

ABS-CBN Sagip Kapamilya Foundation has provided the cost of materials. Meanwhile, the local Government of Mawab contributed on labor cost and 71st IB provided the necessary manpower assistance.

Indeed, it is a collaborative efforts and passion that benefited more or less 100 families, mostly members of the Indigenous community.

LTC Ducusin, Commanding Officers of 71IB and Hon Ruperto S Gonzaga III, Municipal Mayor of Mawab led the ceremonial cutting of ribbon and turned-over to Cristina Brigaño,Purok Chairwoman and Mr Mark Gesulga, School-in-Charge who are the direct beneficiaries of the water system.

“The turn-over of water system is a manifestation of the true spirit of Bayanihan. We took the initiative and gladly, we are given with the right stakeholder and local officials who supported us in our endeavor to pursue developmental projects for the community,” LTC Ducusin said during his speech in the turn-over ceremony.

“To the 71st IB, thank you for extending a beneficial project. Our happiness today is beyond measure. This is such a huge blessing to us. We have felt that we are now part of the community because people have given us favor and this is it, a potable and safe water system that would benefit us,” said Purok Chairman Brigaño.

The families living in the said community will benefit tremendously from having access to clean water for many years to come. As part of the program, more projects are underway with ABS-CBN Sagip Kapamilya Inc in other barangays within 71st IB Area of Operation which are expected to be completed before the year ends.
