Posted to Kalinaw News (Aug 15, 2019): 56th IB Joins turn-over ceremony of three (3) classroom buildings for lumads in Talaingod

56th Infantry “TATAG” Battalion, headed by LTC NORMAN E VALDEZ INF (GSC) PA, Battalion Commander, together with 1003rd Bde, 52nd EBde, KALAHI-CIDSS, LGU Talaingod, DepEd, DSWD FO XI, MLGU, and BLGU participated in the blessing and turn-over ceremony of the three (3) Classrooms for Lumads in Sitio, Basak, Sitio Napisulan and Sitio Salawao, all of Brgy Sto Niño, Talaingod, Davao del Norte on August 15, 2019.

These Classrooms for Lumads are one of the complimentary projects implemented by KALAHI-CIDSS which aimed to provide far-flung indigenous cultural communities with classrooms to address the educational needs of communities. These classrooms are strategically located in areas where Indigenous People resides, thus, encouraging the children in the area to enroll due to accessible education in the area.

During the program, Mrs Reynaly Santos, School head and IP Head of Sto Niño Central Elementary School, speak in behalf of Dr Josephine L Fadul, Davao del Norte DepEd School Division Superintendent.

As COL NOLASCO A MEMPIN INF (GSC) PA, Brigade Commander, 1003rd Bde, 10ID, PA, read the message of the Commander Eastern Mindanao Command, LTGEN FELIMON T SANTOS JR AFP, “Our gathering today speaks of victory for all being a community united to the cause of peace and development, I sincerely hope that you will value the support that was been extended to you for this is for your own welfare.”

With the continuous collaboration, coordination and cooperation of different national and local agencies and with the help of the different stakeholders, last mile communities will have access to education without leaving their ancestral communities.
