Two more suspected New People’ Army rebels, one of them linked by a witness to the torture and summary execution of four police intelligence operatives on July 18, were separately apprehended by government forces on Saturday in SitiosYamot and Sook, Brgy. Mabato, Ayungon, Negros Oriental.

Nabbed first on Saturday by the combined forces of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 7 and 94th Infantry Battalion led by Maj. Epream Paguyod in Sitio Yamot, Brgy. Mabato, Ayungon, was
Edmar Acibo Amaro. His arrest yielded a .38 caliber revolver with three live ammunition, a rifle grenade, a black uniform with marking “PKP 50”, combat shoes, a poncho, and a blue back pack containing personal belongings.

Another alleged NPA member identified as Jojo Torres Ogatis was also apprehended by the same police and military units in Sitio Sook, Brgy. Mabato, also in Ayungon town.


Ogatis, according to the police, was identified by a witness as one of the suspects in the summary execution of four intelligence operatives of RMFB 7 on July 18 in Sitio Yamot of the barangay.

A witness surfaced, following an offer of P5 million reward by President Rodrigo Duterte, to anybody who may provide information that may lead to the arrest of NPA rebels responsible for the summary execution of four policemen in Ayungon town.

The arrest of Amaro and Ogatis came three days after three suspected NPA members reportedly fleeing from Negros Oriental, were intercepted and arrested on July 31 in Badian town Cebu.

The apprehension of the intercepted rebel suspects identified as Danny Harold Tancinco, Ronnie Herebias and Marlon Basalo yielded a .45 caliber pistol, two .38 caliber revolvers, two rifle grenades, two 40mm M-203 grenade launcher ammunition, a fragmentation grenade, tactical maps, P17,170 in cash, subversive documents and personal belongings.

Also on July 29, three other suspected NPA members were also arrested by the police in Bindoy and Ayungon towns that also yielded two .38 caliber revolvers, a rifle grenade and an improvised explosive device (IED).*
