Authorities arrested two men, who were believed to be members of a gun-for-hire group, during a law enforcement operation in Barangay Polloc, Parang, Maguindanao, in a predawn raid Monday.

Lt. Colonel Ibrahim Jambiran, Parang town police chief, said the police raiding team, armed with a search warrant, were after six heavily armed members of a lawless group staying at a house in the area.

“As the policemen were approaching the suspects’ safe house in Barangay Polloc, the suspects opened fire, triggering a shootout,”
Jambiran said.

Police fired back using high-powered automatic firearms, prompting two suspects to raise their hands in surrender, he said.

Jambiran identified them as Ibrahim Usman Piang, 31, and Eddie Usman Piang, 20, both of Barangay Polloc. Jambiran said the four other suspects managed to elude arrest during the 4 a.m. law enforcement operation.

Among those who escaped was long-wanted Porok Ragundo, who is facing frustrated murder charges, he said.

Seized from the two suspects were a home-made Barrett sniper rifle, an M16 rifle, a hand grenade, and ammunition for various firearms.
