Brig. Gen. Benedict Arevalo, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, said yesterday his unit will take charge of the 1 st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th district of Negros Occidental and 1st district of Negros Oriental, while the responsibility for securing areas in southeast Negros Oriental and the southwest portion of Negros Occidental lies with the 302nd Infantry Brigade.
This would also mean that the supervision of 15th Infantry Battalion in southern Negros will now be under the 302nd Infantry Brigade, including the newly-arrived 11th Infantry Battalion, whose troopers are now undergoing training, Arevalo said.
With this development, the 303rd Infantry Brigade will now have three battalions to supervise, including the 79th Infantry Battalion in northern Negros, 62nd and 94th Infantry Battalions in central Negros, in confronting two New People’s Army guerilla fronts.
Arevalo said the realignment of boundaries was based on geographical and threat consideration.
The 11IB and 302nd Infantry Brigade headquarters were both returned from Zamboanga City and Bohol, respectively, to Negros, which is now the priority for clearing operations of armed local insurgents by the Armed Forces of the Philippines Central Command.
Arevalo yesterday distributed plaques of appreciation and letters of commendation to the 15th Infantry Battalion unit and its personnel for a job well done in southern Negros under the supervision of the 303rd Infantry Brigade.
The 302nd Infantry Brigade also confronts two NPA guerilla fronts in southern Negros.
