Bancasi, Butuan City – The Commander of the 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division representing the Commander, Eastern Mindanao Command, AFP led yesterday’s Joint Closing Ceremony in connection with the 40th National Reservist Week Celebration in Surigao City, Sunday, around 3:00pm, June 9, 2019 held at Surigao State College of Technology Main Campus, Surigao City.
In connection with the 40th National Reservist Week Celebration with a theme “Laang Kawal: Makabagong Lingkod Bayang Maasahan sa Panahon ng Digmaan, Sakuna at Kapayapaan”, the 15 th Regional Community Defense Group (RCDG) of the Army Reserve Command (ARESCOM) conducted a Joint Closing Ceremony of the Provincial Assembly/Mobilization Test Surigao del Norte and Activation of Joint Reserve Task Force Caraga with Lieutenant General Felimon T Santos Jr, AFP, Commander of the Eastern Mindanao Command as the Guest of Honor and Speaker represented by Major General Franco Nemesio M Gacal, 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division Commander.
More than two-hundred reservists from the Philippine Army, Philippine Navy and Philippine Air Force to include ROTC Cadets have gathered for the said ceremony. Highlighted during the Closing Ceremony were the activation of the Joint Task Force Caraga, the donning of rank of newly installed reservists and awarding of outstanding reservists.
Among those who attended the Closing Ceremony celebration were Rear Admiral Samuel Z Felix, Deputy Chief of Staff for Retirees and Reservists Affairs, J9 of the General Headquarters, AFP who attended the Opening Ceremony of same activity with Governor Sol F Matugas, Provincial Governor of Surigao del Norte on June 08,Also in attendance were Brigadier General Claro A Lozada (RES), Commander of the 2003rd Ready Reserve Infantry Brigade, ARESCOM, AFP; Col Julian C Pacatan, Group Commander of the 15RCDG, ARESCOM; and Col Maurito L Licudine, 402nd Infantry Brigade Commander, 4ID.
In his speech, Major General Gacal thanked and acknowledged the commendable services, volunteerism and commitment to serve of the AFP Reserve Force being a reliable partner in protecting the people and the communities in Eastern Mindanao. He further emphasized that as one of the major partners in peace and development,the AFP will ensure the readiness and proficiency of the Reserve Force thru appropriate training in order to adequately respond in every challenge confronting the nation.
“I personally believe that to ensure effectiveness, efficiency and proficiency of high quality reserve unit, sustained and incessant efforts to educate, train and retrain reservists should be given utmost priority. In fact the best morale that we could offer to our reservists is quality training such as this”, Major General Gacal added.
On his part, Col Licudine, 402nd Brigade Commander believed that recognition of the men and women of the reserve force manifests the support between the civilians and the military. He said “Our reservists do not receive compensation for their services yet they remain professionals and share their time and effort for the well- being of the people. We recognize and commend the spirit of volunteerism, patriotism, and dedication that the reservists have in their hearts. Their participation in shaping the civilian community is worthy of emulation”.
