Security intensified in 6 areas

From the Visayan Daily Star (Apr 6, 2019): Security intensified in 6 areas

The Western Visayas Regional Joint Security Control Center did not act on the proposal to place Moises Padilla town under “Category Red” and five other areas in Negros Occidental under “Category Orange” yet, but the Army has intensified security in the prospective areas, Brig. Gen. Benedict Arevalo, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, said.
The recommendation was taken favorably by the RJSCC that convened yesterday in Iloilo City and it is up for recommendation to higher command, acting Comelec Provincial Supervisor Salud Milagros Villanueva said.

The Provincial Joint Security Control Center had recommended placing Moises Padilla town under “Category Red”, or an election area of grave concern, because of the presence of intense political rivalry and New People’s Army activity, she said.

Recommended to be placed under “Category Orange”, or areas of immediate concern, are Isabela, Kabankalan City, Himamaylan City, Hinoba-an, and Toboso, because of the presence of armed groups, she added, citing encounters between the Army and NPA in those areas.
