From the Visayan Daily Star (Apr 8, 2019): National protest vs. killing of 'Negros 14' Wednesday
Militant groups are staging a National Day of Action on Wednesday to demand Justice for the “Negros 14” and all farmers killed under the Duterte regime, a press release from the Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas said yesterday.
Farmers and peasant sectors led by KMP, Unyon ng mga Manggagawa sa Agrikultura, AMIHAN National Federation of Peasant Women, and land reform advocates are calling on all Filipinos to launch protests, solidarity actions, and activities to strongly condemn the mass killing of farmers in Negros Oriental and demand justice for their deaths, the press release said.
“We call on all concerned sectors – workers, professionals, Overseas Filipino workers, academe-based, Church-based, the media, and all peace and democracy-loving individuals to take action, protest, and show their rage over this brutal and senseless killing of farmers in Canlaon City, Sta. Catalina and Manjuyod towns in hacienda capital Negros,” the militant groups said in a joint statement.
The spate of killings and the culture of impunity in the Philippines must stop, they said.
Protests will be held at Mendiola and major cities and provinces around the country on Wednesday, the press release said.
Similar solidarity actions are also set to take place worldwide for the global day of action led by the International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines, it added.*
