Three fighters of the outlawed Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) were killed, while another was wounded in separate clashes with government troops in Midasayap, North Cotabato last week.

The North Cotabato police office said BIFF field leader Mando “Commander DM” Mamalumpong and his follower Norhamin Sabdulla were killed in a reported shootout with military-backed policemen trying to serve a court warrant for his arrest at Barangay Olandang in Midasayap town last Saturday.

P/Col. Maximo C. Layugan, North Cotabato police director, said Mamalumpong and his followers shot it out Saturday morning with the combined state forces tasked to arrest him for illegal possession of explosive in criminal case pending in court.

Layugan said an M16 rifle and M14 rifle were recovered from the fatalities after the firefight. The recovered firearms were taken into custody by the Army’s by 34th Infantry Battalion under Lt. Col. Glenn Loreto Cabllero, he added.

In another encounter at Barangay Kadingilan, also in Midasayap town on April 16, 34th IB soldiers killed BIFF fighter Taib Tawan-Tawan, and wounded his field leader named as Samad Masdal.
A military report said the operating soldiers recovered an M14 rifle beside the body of the slain rebel,
adding that other BIFF fighters retreated from the battle scene and carried the injured Masdal.
