Slain ‘assassin’ identified

From the Visayan Daily Star (Mar 11): Slain ‘assassin’ identified

The suspected member of the New People’s Army Special Partisan Unit, who was killed in a brief shootout with a policeman on March 7 in Manjuyod, Negros Oriental, turned out to be a resident of Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental.

Capt. Oliver Usog, 94th Infantry Battalion Civil Military Operations officer, yesterday identified the slain NPA SPARU unit member as Tachico Salvacion, 23, of Sitio Dawahan, Brgy. Buenavista, Himamaylan City.

The cadaver of Salvacion, a habal-habal driver in Manjuyod town, was claimed by his parents and relatives, Usog said.

Police investigations showed that Usog and three of his companions, at gunpoint, tried to disarm SP01 Humprey Teves of his gun. But the police officer managed to fight back, and was able to shoot two of the four assailants.

Usog, who was killed, was left behind by his fleeing comrades, with one of whom also hit and injured in the leg, Senior Supt. Raul Tacaca, provincial police director of Negros Oriental, earlier said.

Lt. Col. Randy Pagunuran, 94IB commanding officer, in a statement, condemned the recruitment of teenagers and minors by the New People’s Army.
