Marawi City exec nabbed for rebellion

From the Philippine News Agency (Mar 13, 2019): Marawi City exec nabbed for rebellion

A team of military and police operatives have arrested the second highest official of Marawi City for rebellion, officials announced Wednesday.

The Army’s 82nd Infantry Battalion and local policemen arrested Vice Mayor Arafat Salic of Marawi City around 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Marawi City Hall.

“Salic is included in the Office of the Martial Law Administrator Arrest Order dated September 4, 2017 for rebellion case,” said Col. Romeo Brawner, the Army’s 103rd Infantry Brigade commander.

Brawner said Salic went into hiding when the arrest order was released in 2017, but emerged again after hearing reports his name had been cleared.

Salic was subjected to medical check-up and custodial debriefing for his eventual turn-over to the police for proper disposition, the Army official said.

Brig. Gen. Roberto Ancan, Army’s 1st Infantry Division, lauded government forces for the successful implementation of Martial Law arrest order.

“The 1st Infantry Division supports the Commander-in-Chief’s declaration of Martial Law. We will perform our duties in accordance with the law, respecting the rights of every individual and their properties,” Ancan said.

“We take pride of the overwhelming support of the constituents and stakeholders in our area of responsibility as we perform our mandate to serve the people and secure the land,” Ancan added.
