From the Visayan Daily Star (Mar 25, 2019): Ex-rebel survives slay try
A rebel returnee managed to survive the attempt on his life by suspected New People’s Army rebels Saturday night in Brgy. Caradio-an, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental.
Supt. Ervin Glen Provido, Himamaylan City police chief, said yesterday that Wilfredo Buenaflor, a rebel returnee, managed to jump from the window of his house, while three armed suspects were entering his residence.
Provido said Buenaflor, was shot but was not hit by the one of the suspects.
While the armed suspects, estimated by Thelma Buenaflor, at about 30, did not harm her and their children, they robbed them of P26,000 in cash and P70,000 worth of jewelries, Himamaylan police investigation showed.
The suspects,who were Cebuano-speaking introduced themselves as members of the NPA, before leaving the residence of Buenaflor, Provido said.
An empty cartridge of an M-16 rifle was recovered at the scene of incident by the Himamaylan City police.
