Ebrahim wants ‘moral governance’ for Bangsamoro

From MindaNews (Mar 25, 2019): Ebrahim wants ‘moral governance’ for Bangsamoro

The head of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) on Saturday declared he will push for an Islamized governance for the new region.

“If we cannot do it then our jihad has failed, I am pushing for a moral governance,” BARMM Interim Chief Minister Ahod Balawag Ebrahim (Al Haj Murad Ebrahim) told his audience in Barangay Gambar here which he said was his hiding place during critical times when he was still leading Moro Islamic Liberation Front at the height of their revolutionary struggle for self-rule.

Ebrahim, speaking in Maguindanao, said the people are clamoring to change a system marked by corruption, discontent and failed governance.

Among the issues raised by residents during the “listening session” were related to infrastructure, additional teachers and medical workers.

Ebrahim also highlighted in his speech the use of money by politicians to woo votes and other wrongdoings, which he said the people must avoid if they want to prove that change can start with them.

Villagers from Kabuntalan and Pagalungan towns joined the event, which coincided with a medical mission and tree planting activity.

“He listened to the reports and concerns of the people and urged everyone to work for the betterment of the people,” Local Government Minister Atty. Naguib Sinarimbo said.

Sinarimbo added the new leader wants to treat the government as “our government” which will work for the interest of the people by observing transparency and consultative process.

“He sought everyone to help him end the malady of corruption,” he said.

After several postponements the interim Bangsamoro government will hold its inauguration on March 29. President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to attend the event.

A ceremonial Bai A Qur’an (Oath to the Qur’an) by BARMM’s appointed officials will highlight the inauguration.

“We started the jihad with an oath before the Qur’an. This time we will also take an oath before the Qur’an as we start our governance,” Ebrahim stressed.
