EASTMINCOM: EMC's Intensified security pre-empted NPA's terroristic plans

Posted to the Eastern Mindanao Command (EASTMINCOM) Website (Feb 8, 2019): EMC's Intensified security pre-empted NPA's terroristic plans

NSFA, Panacan, Davao City - The intensified security effort of all military units under Eastern Mindanao Command pre-empted NPA terrorist plans in Eastern Mindanao since January of this year up to the first week of February 2019.

This came after troops were able to capture 30 landmines during various security operations from January 1, 2019, to February 5, 2019.

It can be recalled that on January 27, 2019, troops from 25th Infantry Battalion recovered a 16-kilogram landmine, blasting caps, and detonating cord during a security operation in Sitio Ngan, Diwata, Monkayo, Compostela Valley Province.

In Caraga Region, elements from the Philippine National Police with troops under the Eastern Mindanao Command confiscated landmine paraphernalia during a law enforcement operation in Sitio Kauswagan, Bit-os, Butuan City.

Meanwhile, MGen. Felimon T. Santos Jr., Commander, EMC, denounced the NPAs' continuous use of banned landmines based on International Humanitarian Law.

"The leadership of NPA are all lip service, they always pretend to respect International Humanitarian Law (IHL), but in truth, they are the number one violator of this law. These landmines that were captured from them is a manifestation of their wanton disregard of IHL and the safety of the communities," MGen Santos said.
