NSFA, Panacan, Davao City - "Facilitate and work for convergence to address concerns and resolve issues in conflict-affected areas through Peace and Development Zone concept."
This was what MGen. Felimon T. Santos Jr., Commander of Eastern Mindanao Command emphasized after he was appraised on the operational environment of CARAGA Region during his visit to the different military units therein on February 6, 2019.
"The joint and complementing effort of Regional Development Council (RDC), and Regional Peace Council declaring areas as Peace and Development Zones is a good template that will facilitate the achievement of durable peace in the region, therefore we should work for the replication in other areas of the region". MGen Santos Jr.
added.
The Peace and Development Zone is a peace-building initiative which promotes the establishment of durable peace by addressing the root causes of conflict through reconciliation, peace constituency building, social, political and economic transformation.
The program which has been pushed by then MGen. Benjamin R. Madrigal Jr, during his stint as Commander of 4th Infantry Division (4ID), adopts the "whole of nation approach" and conflict sensitivity lens in tackling and addressing prevalent issues and conflict in the communities.
MGen Santos' visit was part of his operational assessment and survey of the EMC's Area of Responsibility after he assumes leadership on January 21, 2019.
He was received by BGen. Franco Nemesio Gacal, newly installed Commander of 4ID and concurrent Brigade Commander of 402nd Brigade; and BGen. Andress Centino, the Commander of 401st Infantry Brigade.
