LAGONGLONG, Misamis Oriental -- Army’s 58th Infantry Battalion together with the local government unit of Lagonglong in Misamis Oriental held a gift-giving activity to the evacuees from Sitio Kamansi at their temporary relocation site in Old Kibanban, Brgy Kibanban, Balingasag town, December 27.

Twenty eight internally displaced persons (IDPs) participated in the parlor games (both for adults and children), received gifts and sacks of rice and shared a simple meal together with the troops and LGU representatives bringing joy to the hearts of the families this Yuletide.

Bridging the bond especially to the members of the four families that returned from the evacuees at the Misamis Oriental provincial capitol last December 14, the activity is in coordination with the Barangay Council of Banglay and Lagonglong Mayor Jap Puertas.

“We want to extend the spirit of Christmas to these families with the Army’s 58IB and let them feel the love and joy this season brings,” mayor Puertas said. Different stakeholders also supported the activity by giving gifts.

“Much as I want to have them spend Christmas in their homes in Sitio Kamansi and others in their beloved Sitio Anahaw, the CPP-NPA terrorists and NDF organizer keep on threatening and preventing them to go back, and using them as a means to pressure the government to pull out military detachment in their areas,” Lieutenant Colonel Anthony O. Derilo, 5thIB commanding officer said.
