FORT ANDRES BONIFACIO, Taguig City (DWDD) – Army Engineers and K-9 units have been deployed to assist search and retrieval operation at the Itotgon landslide site.

According to Philippine Army spokesperson LTC Loiue Villanueva, members of the 525th Engineer Combat Batallion and the Army K9 Military Working Dogs were deployed in Itogon Benguet to assist in the rescue and retrieval operation of people, mostly miners buried by landslide after TY Ompong hit the country.

The team is composed of six (6) Search and Rescue Retrieval Teams equipped with heavy equipment and specialized tools for such an incident.

Meanwhile, the K9 Search and Rescue Team has the capability to detect victims under the rubble and mud.

Efforts has been hampered by tons debris, mostly boulders and mud.

Based on reports received by the Philippine Army, rescuers have so far retrived 39 cadavers, there are still 65 missing and 15 wounded. AES / ALS / MCAG
