From Tempo (Jul 31): Submarine program OK’d
The Department of National Defense (DND) Monday said that President Duterte has given the go signal for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to have its own submarine program.
In an interview, DND spokesman Director Arsenio Andolong said the submarine acquisition is part of the wishlist of the AFP and no less than the Chief Executive has given his blessing for the AFP to push through with it.
Andolong said the Philippine Navy is currently undergoing the study for doctrine and research.
“Well, the proposed submarine program at least was given a go by the president. The Philippine Navy has began studying its doctrines and planning its procurement,” Andolong said.
