LUCENA CITY- Three separate armed encounters transpired between government troops and members of CPP-NPA terrorists in the Southern Luzon Command (SOLCOM) Area of Responsibility (AOR), Thursday, May 10.

   

CNT detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) while Elements from 93rd Division Reconnaissance Company were traversing along Barangay Pag-oring road, boundary of Brgy Malinao and Brgy Pag-oring Viejo, Libmanan Camarines Sur, onboard a military truck, yesterday at around 7:45 PM.

The government troops were able to retaliate and an exchange of fire ensued for about 15 minutes. The said encounter resulted in one government forces killed in action and three were reportedly wounded.

Lieutenant General Danilo Pamonag, Commander of the Southern Luzon Command, condemned in the strongest term the continued use of improvised explosive devices (IED) by the CNTs, which is a clear violation on the Comprehensive Agreement on Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (CARHRIHL).

CARHRIHL is an agreement signed by both Philippine government and the CPP-NPA-NDF which states that landmines and IED are banned from use by both parties.

Meanwhile, two encounters transpired at Barangay Danao and Barangay San Francisco, all of Bulan Sorsogon on 6:50 PM and 8:30 PM respectively on same date, 10 May.

Based on the report, elements of 31IB acted upon a report from concerned civilians that seven members of CNTs, Larangan 2, Komiteng Probinsya 3 of Bicol Regional Party Committee were seen at vicinity Barangay Danao, Bulan, Sorsogon. The troops were able to catch them which prompted a firefight that lasted for more or less three minutes after which the CNTs withdrew Northeast of Brgy Lapinig, Magallanes. The encounter resulted in the recovery of one Caliber 45 and one government troop wounded in action.

On a separate report, elements of 31IB while conducting security operation at vicinity Barangay San Francisco encountered undetermined number of CNTs believed to be members of KSPN1, L2, KP3 BRPC. The encounter resulted in another soldier wounded in action.

Meanwhile on 09 May, at around 11:00 AM, one squad of 9IB recovered various enemy supplies when concerned civilians reported the location at vicinity Sitio Abuyog, Brgy Macogon, Labo Camarines Norte.

Lt Gen Pamonag directed the field commanders to intensify the conduct of security operation to keep the CNTs on the run and to ensure that they will not be able to disrupt the upcoming Barangay and SK election.

He further said that SOLCOM will continue to perform its mandate to protect the community and encourages the people to remain vigilant and report to the authorities the presence of any lawless elements in their area. SOLCOM / MCAG
