From the Manila Bulletin (May 13): Arrest of NPA leader is a major breakthrough in preserving security in Davao
An Army official expressed belief that the arrest of New People’s Army (NPA) leader Elizalde CaƱete alias Jinggoy is a major breakthrough in the effort by the government to preserve human security in Davao Region.
Army 1003rd Brigade commander Brig. Gen. Ernesto Torres Jr., said in a statement that with Jinggoy now under government custody awaiting a mounting pile of cases and his group in splinters after suffering from a devastating tactical loss before government forces, the people of the region were afforded the assuring prelude of a more dignified and more peaceful living.
“Like usual crime suspects, Jinggoy shall be entitled of his rights and be treated humanely in the entire duration of the proceedings starting from his current status as under house arrest,” Torres said.
“He shall be accorded of his right for the equal protection of laws and the provisions of the due process of law,” he added.
Torres said that while it is true that the breakthrough is in itself a victory of the people, much more effort is needed to finally put terrorists who are still on the loose at bay.
“Your Army, the1003rd Raptor Brigade, being at the forefront with all other government agencies, will continue in its mandate to be the protector of the people at all times and shall exemplify as a champion in protecting the rights of all persons,” Torres said
“In view of the plight that Jinggoy and his predecessor Kumander Parago has suffered, the unit is again calling on others who are still chained in the delusion of the “classless society” to come out in the open, away from the futility and falsity of the promises of the armed struggle,” he added.
Capt. Jerry Lamosao, the Deputy Public Affairs Office (DPAO) of the 10th Infantry Division, said at the start of 2018, the priority of the 10th ID is to stop terroristic activities of the terrorist NPA in Davao. And the center of these operations is to stop the unabated anti-development criminal actions of ka Jingoy.
Lamosao said the 10ID provided follow-on forces to the forces of 1003rd B that led to an encounter at Sitio Linao, Kipilas, Kitaotao, Bukidnon at about 1:30 p.m. of May 10 2018, and wounded Ka Jinggoy.
At about 2 p.m. of May 11, troops of the 89th Infantry Battalion under the 1003rd Brigade, conducted clearing operation at the encounter site and discovered bloodstains, several napkins, and enemy bunkers.
Lamosao said Jinggoy’s unabated terroristic actions finally ceased through a joint law enforcement operation at 10 a.m. when he was captured.
“Ka Jingoy is responsible for the destruction and burning of construction equipment in Davao that delayed much-needed development in the hinterlands of Paquibato district and the region. His brand of terrorism affects the improvement of everyone’s lives,” Lamosao said
“His capture will diminish the Pulang Bagani Command’s capabilities that will end antidevelopment activities of the NPA,” he added.
Army 10th ID commander Maj. Gen. Noel S. Clement said the 10th ID is committed to bringing peace to the region by removing those who threaten it and make them face the bar of justice.”
“We are always grateful for the untiring support of the people. 10ID urges the remaining CPP-NPA terrorists to give up armed struggle and avail of government’s Comprehensive Local Integration Program,” Clement said.
