From the Philippine Information Agency (Feb 2): 53rd IB awards outstanding stakeholders

GUIPOS, Zamboanga del Sur -- The 53rd Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army gave due recognition to outstanding stakeholders for their significant contributions to peace, stability and development in the unit’s area of operations and in the successful implementation of the Army Transformation Roadmap.

Various stakeholders from local government unit, private and media sectors were honored by LtCol. Virgilio Hamos, Jr, commanding officer in a simple ceremony held at its headquarters, Camp Major David Sabido, this town.

Hamos thanked the stakeholders for joining him in the the activity saying that the simple gathering is a celebration of the professional and personal bond that they have shared for almost 2 years.

“I am deeply grateful to all for actively supporting the unit in providing services to the people and addressing the root cause of poverty in far-flung communities in our area of operations,” Hamos said.

“You have been behind our back at all times. Our accomplishments are also your accomplishments,” he added.

DXPR Station Manager Melchor U. Coronel thanked the unit for giving the local media due recognition for their partnership with the Philippine Army.

“This recognition inspires us to strengthen our relationship with the Philippine Army in promoting peace and sustainable development in the province. I hope that our partnership will continue and flourish even further,” Coronel said.

The army chief officially assumed as battalion commander of the unit on February 12, 2016 and will end his stint this month.
