The physician who allegedly served the Maute Group along with 50 members of the homegrown terrorist organization that led the siege of Marawi is facing a slew of charges from the Department of Justice.

A DOJ resolution said there is probable cause to indict Dr. Russell Salic and 50 others with six counts of kidnapping and serious illegal detention and two counts of murder.

The charges arise from the April 4, 2017 kidnapping of six saw mill workers in Butig, Lanao del Sur.

Two of them, Jaymark Kapampangan and Salvador Hanubos, were beheaded six days later.

Salic has been tagged as the doctor of the Maute Group and was allegedly involved in an aborted plot to bomb certain targets in New York.

Salic is the subject of extradition proceedings as requested by the US government.

The DOJ resolution approved the lodging of the cases with Branch 11 of the Regional Trial Court of the 12th Judicial Region in Malabang, Lanao del Sur.

Salic is in custody of the National Bureau of Investigation.
