CAMP BANCASI, Butuan City – The 700 members of Underground Mass Organization (UGMO), a mass-based group of the New People’s Army (NPA), along with some NPA regular fighters and Sangay sa Partido and Milisyang Bayan who also recently gave themselves up to field Army troops, have joined their respective families during the Christmas celebration.

This big number of UGMO members and some regular member of NPA front guerilla committees recently voluntarily surrendered to the different units of the Army’s Northeastern and Northern Mindanao 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division (4th ID) and Southern Mindanao 10th Infantry (Agila) Division (10thID).

Lt. Gen. Benjamin Madrigal, chief of the AFP Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMinCom) presented this big number of surrenderees as the accomplishment of the different units in year 2017 at the covered court of Naval Station at Camp Felix Apolinario in Panacan, Davao City on Thursday.

The AFP EastMinCom chief also presented the 160 surrendered firearms and 251 recovered firearms.

“The President would like to inform the surrenderees of the government programs that aim to help them and their families to have a chance to be integrated in the mainstream society and live a normal productive life. Amidst the conflict, the President is willing to provide immediate assistance to those who wanted to go back to the government,” said AFP-EastMinCom chief Lt. Gen. Benjamin R. Madrigal, in a statement sent to The Manila Bulletin Sunday.

He said this big number of surrenderees have already joined with their respective families in the celebration of Christmas Day and New Years Day.

“They already joined their loved ones during the celebration of Christmas,” he said.

Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Ronald C. Villanueva, commanding general of the Army’s Northeastern and Northern Mindanao 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division today encouraged the remaining NPAs, armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) to come down now and avail of the government’s peace, livelihood and development program.
