DWDD: EARLY INTERVENTION | Sinagtala, JTG Tabang launch toy library in Landa, LDS

From DWDD AFP Civil Relations Service Radio Website (Oct 3): EARLY INTERVENTION  |  Sinagtala, JTG Tabang launch toy library in Landa, LDS

PROVINCIAL CAPITOL, Marawi City (DWDD) – As part of the psycho-social intervention for children, the Joint Task Group Tabang partnered with the Sinagtala Center for Women and Children to establish a “Toy Library” in the Tent City located in Brgy Landa, Balo-i, Lanao del Sur, Sunday, October 1.

Sinagtala headed by Ms Jamela Alindogan donated assorted toys from the different donors local and abroad to promote early intervention to the children affected by conflict through a classroom type-learning.

Around 300 children aging 3-12 who will be clustered according to their age and educational needs will be benefited by the said program.

Since Sinagtala will not be staying in the province, the members of the Civil Relations Company, known as the “Hijab Troopers” will serve as the permanent soldier-teachers in the area.

Although trained to facilitate psychosocial interventions for the kids, hijab troopers will still undergo two-day training before totally taking care of the toy library and its clienteles, the children.

The hijab troopers will be given set of modules that will be followed to ensure that children will surely be learning aside from playing.

Modules include reading, arithmetic, writing, and scientific skills that can reinforce their regular classroom learnings in their school.

Children who witnessed the setting up of the room and its toys were very excited on their next endeavour as they all rushed to the room after the launching.

“Aside from giving them time to play, learning is the ultimate intention why we put up this library,” said Jam Alindogan of Sinagtala.

“We also have to put up a library where we can lock-up all the toys and educational materials so that children can’t bring them home. The reason is that, we have to teach them to share their toys for them to have an opportunity to experience playing variety of toys unlike if they only have one or two in their respective abode,” adds Alindogan.

Meanwhile, Colonel Thomas Sedano Jr., commander of the Joint Task Group Tabang thanked the Sinagtala for setting up a toy library that can support the psychosocial interventions being conducted by the hijab troopers.

“We would like to thank the Sinagtala for these toy libray as it will reinforce the regular interventions being facilitated by our hijab troopers. This is another approach that can sustain the previous efforts that was already made by our troops and will totally erase the trauma brought by the conflict of Marawi to the minds of these children,” says Col Sedano.

The regular session will commence once the assigned hijab troopers are done with their training. JTG TABANG/MCAG
